Oasis Dreaming…

Imagine yourself embarking on the largest passenger liner to ever set sail. Sixteen decks. More than 2,700 staterooms. It’s a marvel of engineering. But when the designers set out to create it, they didn’t just want big…they wanted evolutionary and revolutionary. And if you get the chance to step aboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, you’ll see what I mean.

Imagine trying to board a cruise ship with 5,400 other passengers. You might think there would be long lines snaking up and down the cruise terminal for hours. But not with the Oasis of the Seas. Yes, there are masses of people, but they are quickly dispersed into strategically placed rows of check-in desks; the suite guests even have their own private check-in area. Literally, within minutes of arriving at the pier, you can be onboard, standing in the middle of the Royal Promenade wondering what to do next.

So, what is next? The usual first task is to find your stateroom. If you are unfamiliar with the ship, it can sometimes be a daunting mission. However, Oasis of the Seas sports convenient touch-screen stateroom locaters on each deck. So, again, within minutes, you can begin unpacking and relaxing in your comfortably appointed stateroom (maybe even watch a program on your flat screen LCD television).

Or, maybe you’ll decide that a cocktail is in order to kick off the cruise. But which watering hole do you head to? There are, after all, more than a dozen bars and lounges on this ship! So, your best bet may simply begin to walk. If you want to experience all the Oasis has to offer, you’ll need to start right away!

After a jaunt through the Royal Promenade, you’ll pass a pub, a pizzeria, a coffee shop and night clubs; then meander onto The Boardwalk, where the first Carousel at sea resides. You’ll pass the incredible Aqua Theater – more on that in a moment – and you can satisfy your sweet tooth by stopping into shops selling candy, doughnuts and even beautifully decorated "designer” cupcakes!

There is so much to see and do, but you’ll also have plenty of time to simply relax and enjoy the ambiance. Take a sunset stroll to a comfortable enclosed bar overlooking the pool. Let the sun’s glow warm you and enjoy being entertained by the hospitable bartenders.

When it’s time to eat, there are plenty of choices. The Oasis of the Seas features so many restaurants you could eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in a different venue every day of your cruise and still not experience them all! There are 24 distinct dining experiences, ranging from its signature steakhouse, Chops Grille, to a Tuscan countryside-influenced trattoria and 150 Central Park – the ship’s most exclusive dining venue. Several of the incredible restaurants line the walk through Central Park – a sprawling and elegantly landscaped neighborhood with real tropical foliage, flowers, shrubs, and even trees – some of which are two and a half decks tall.

You may find yourself eating at least a few meals in the Opus Dining Room, a three-level dining room reviving the grandeur of the 1920s, beautifully decorated enough to make you feel like royalty. Just one look at the incredible crystal chandelier takes everyone’s breath away. The fixture perfectly complements the immense size of the main dining room; it sparkles and so do passengers’ eyes in its light. The food, well, simply put… perfecto! How can these chefs satisfy this many people with perfect timing, with no mistakes, not overcooked or underdone? Royal Caribbean simply has it down to a science.

As one might expect, the shows aboard Oasis of the Seas are of the highest caliber. You can even reserve several of the most popular shows in advance.

Perhaps the most impressive of all takes place in the Aqua Theater, and it is appropriately named Oasis of Dreams. Set against the backdrop of the ocean beneath the twinkling nighttime sky, this breathtaking dive show features divers, synchronized swimmers, gymnasts, heart-pounding music, fountains, lighting and special effects. It will leave audiences wowed after every performance. It really is an Oasis of Dreams come true – much like the ship itself.
