A Transatlantic voyage on Cunard's Queen Mary 2 is for many people a very special voyage.  It is a classic voyage that is on the bucket list for many people, but one of the most common questions I am asked by people booking a Transatlantic is "is there plenty to keep me occupied on the voyage.  The simple answer is, yes there is plenty to keep everyone busy.  So here are my tips to ten great things you can do on a Transatlantic Voyage and you will be kept busy on your Transatlantic voyage.

Take in a lecture or talk by a guest celebrity speaker.

The Queen Mary 2 is well known for attracting some of the best celebrity speakers, from TV personalities and politicians, to authors, music legends and explorers.  You will get to hear their tales, ideas and behind the scenes glimpses.  very often the guests will have the opportunity to ask the celebrity speakers questions.  Some of the celebrities may do demonstrations of their skills too. Some of the celebrity speakers are extremely popular so my advice is arrive early to get the best seats.  It is also worth checking what speakers are on your voyage at the time of booking.

Dance the night away in the Queen's Room

The Queen's room, named after Queen Mary is the largest ballroom at sea and has a massive dancefloor.  You can dance the night away with your partner or one of the ship's dance hosts or hostesses.  You can even learn to dance at coaching sessions, so that you can sparkle on the dance floor and dazzle at one of the themed ball nights.

Visit the Kennels

The Queen Mary 2 is the only passenger ship to have its own kennels so that owners can take their dogs on their voyage across the Atlantic.  The kennels are situated on the top deck.  They have regular exercise sessions for the dogs and these attract many dog lovers to watch the fun.  The kennels are only open for the Transatlic Crossings.

The Queen Mary 2 was the first ship to have a planetarium.  They do regular show and are particularly popular with those who have an interest in astronomy or space travel.  The shows are spectacular and are free.  As with the talks make sure you turn up early to ensure you get a ticket.  The best seats are right in the middle of the auditorium.

The Spa

The Queen Mary 2 has one of the best spas at sea.  The Spa has a team of highly qualified therapists who can offer you a range of spa treatments from massages to beauty treatments.  One of the perks of having a treatment is access to the hydrotherapy pool snd the sauna and steam rooms,  however if you want to enjoy those facilities without a treatment you can buy a spa access day pass.   I can thoroughly recommend the hydrotherapy pool, which is very relaxing and soothing.

The Art Gallery

The Queen Mary 2 has a well stocked Art gallery that has paintings and prints from some of the best contemporary artists and sculptors.  it is staffed by very knowledgeable staff who will be able to tell you about both the paintings and the artists.  It is worth watching out for the weekly art auction, you can have a very pleasant couple of hours with no obligation to buy and you can enjoy a free glass of champagne.

Learn Performance Skills

Guests on the Queen Mary 2 can take advantage of the opportunity to learn to act from professional actors and tutors from the famous Drama School RADA.  You even get a certificate at the end of the course.  If you are more musical then you may enjoy joining the choir and perform with them in a performance at the end of the week for your fellow guests.  You also have a chance to perform in the Guest Talent Show and entertain your fellow guests with your party piece.

Learn mixology and wine tasting

You can learn these skills from expert mixologists and sommeliers who will help you gain a recognised basic certificate in wine tasting.  Watch out also for other opportunities to taste gin, whiskies, and other spirits.

Take in a show

The Queen Mary 2 has one of the best show teams in the Cruise Industry, the evening shows are often spectacular and regularly feature some pretty amazing guest artistes.  A perfect way to relax after dinner, these shows are free and you will sometimes see some top musicians and comedians in a more intimate setting than you would normally.

Watch the entry into or Out of New York.

Obviously this is something that you will do at the very beginning or end of the voyage.  There is really no better way to enjoy the sights of New York Harbour.  You will sail right by Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.  The other highlight that you will not want to miss is the passing under the Verazzano Bridge.  It is a spectacular sight as there is usually only a metre or so between the top of the funnel and the bottom of the bridge.

So as you can see there is plenty to see and do on a Transatlantic Voyage with Queen Mary 2.
