CRUISE LINE CANCELLATION AND TRANSFER POLICIES DURING

CORONA VORUS (COVID 19) OUT BREAK

UPDATE

During the ongoing Corona Virus (Co-vid 19) outbreak many of the cruise lines are responding to guest concerns by amending their cancellation and transfer of bookings policies.  This is in order to give guests peace of mind and greater flexibility.  In order to help you below is a summary of these policies.  Whilst we will endeavour to maintain accuracy with updates, as you can imagine in the current situations policies may change rapidly without notice so please check with the individual cruise lines for the latest news.

 

Cunard

As you have probably seen in the news and social media, Cunard have now suspended all sailings until 15 May 2020.

 

Guests affected by the suspension will be notified directly by Cunard and have a choice of a 125% Future Cruise Credit or they can apply for a 100% Cash refund by following a link on the email.

As of 19 March 2020 Cunard amended their cancellation and transfer policy which is applicable to their guests travelling before 31 August 2020. 

If guests wish to keep their existing booking and sail as planned, they will be offered between $150 and $900 on board spending money dependent on the length of their cruise.  This is added to the lead passengers on board account.

If a passenger is due to travel before 31 august 2020 they can if they wish transfer their booking, they can do up to 48 hours before the sail date.  Cunard will apply a Future Cruise Credit worth 110% if a guest has paid in full. 

If a guest has a booking due to sail after 31 August 2020 they can transfer to a later date before the balance due date with no fees.

If a guest is due to sail before 31 August 2020 they have 2 options.  They can cancel up to 48 hours before and receive a future cruise credit to the value of 110% if they have paid the balance or their deposit alternatively  a guest can cancel under the original terms and conditions and be subject to the fees set out in the original terms and conditions. 

 

P and O Cruises

Like Cunard, P and O cruises have cancelled all sailings until 15 May 2020.

 

Guests affected by the suspension will be notified directly by Cunard and have a choice of a 125% Future Cruise Credit or they can apply for a 100% Cash refund by following a link on the email.

 

As of 19 March 2020 P and O Cruises amended their cancellation and transfer policy which is applicable to their guests travelling before 31 August 2020. 

If guests wish to keep their existing booking and sail as planned, they will be offered between $150 and $900 on board spending money dependent on the length of their cruise.  This is added to the lead passengers on board account.

Saga

Saga have suspended all ocean cruises until 1 May 2020.  Guests affected by cruises cancelled in this period are being offered a 125% Future cruise voucher. That can be applied to a future cruise.  This voucher is good for any cruise over the next 24 months.  If for any reason you do not use the credit within 24 months you will be automatically refunded in full equal to the amount you paid for the cruise. Alternatively if you prefer you can apply for a full refund equivalent to the mount you paid. 

 

Disney Cruises

Disney have suspended their cruise programme until April 12 2020.

 

Disney are offering affected guests a choice of a Future Cruise credit or full refund.  Guests choosing a full refund must apply through the link on the email sent to affected guests. 

 

Guests booked on European Sailings up until 25 July can change their reservation up until the day before they are due to sail.  They will receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit which is valid on future cruises within 15 months of the original sail date.  Guests due to sail on the July European departures can delay their final payment up until 30 days before departure.

 

Costa Cruises

Have cancelled all sailing until 30 April 2020.  Guests who have had their cruise cancelled will receive a voucher for a full refund.

 

The new cancellation policy allows guests who have booked their cruise by 31 May 2020 the option to cancel their cruise up to 48 hours before and they will receive a 100% future cruise credit.   The new cancellation policy applies to all Costa departures up to 30 November 2020. 

 

The future cruise credit voucher is valid for 12 months from date of issue. 


Scenic Cruises and Emerald Waterways

Scenic Cruises  Group have suspended all river cruise sailings until 30 April 2020.  Guests who have the cruise cancelled have a choice of a Future Cruise Credit worth 125% of the booking valid for 24 months or a refund to the value of the cruise.  Guests who are due to sail in May 2020 are being allowed to cancel or transfer their booking up to 14 days before the cruise departure.  The value of any holiday cancelled will be applied in future cruise credit rather than cash refund.

 

FRED OLSEN

Fred Olsen Cruise line have released a Booking Reassurance Guarantee.  This allows guests to cancel their cruise in return for a Future Cruise Voucher without penalty for another cruise within the same year.  This applies to all new cruise bookings  between 4 March 2020 and 5 May 2020.

All passenger who book a 2020 Fred Olsen Ocean Cruise or 2020 Brabant River Cruise are able to cancel their cruise in return for a Future Cruise Credit Voucher for the entirety of the monies paid to date providing you give at least 14 days notice prior to sailing.  The voucher must be used on a later 2020 sailing.

Fred Olsen have applied this guarantee to the newly launched 2021 / 2022 brochure sailings too.

 

Fred Olsen have now paused its ocean cruises until 23 May 2020.  Currently they plan to commence the river cruise program on 6 April 2020.  Guests who were due to sail on these cancelled sailings are now being offered a full refund or a future cruise credit of 125% of the cruise holiday value.

 

MSC Cruises

 

MSC have suspended their cruise programme fleet wide until 29 May 2020.  Guests affected by this suspension will be offered a 125% Future Cruise Voucher.  These Future Cruise  Vouchers can be used at any point through to the end of 2021.

 

MSC have amended their cancellation policy allowing cruise guests to cancel existing bookings for sailings that depart before 31 July 2020 up to 48 hours prior to departure and they will get a future cruise credit for the amount they have paid.  The Future Cruise Credit can be applied to any future MSC Cruise departing before 31 December 2021.  This policy applies to new booking for cruises departing on or before  31 July 2020.

 

It is important to note final and full payment must be made on a cruise departing prior to 31 July 2020 to qualify for this Cruise Assurance Program.

 

Norwegian Cruise Line

As you will have seen on the news and on social mdia Norwegian Cruise line have also suspended voyages until the 11 May 2020.  Guests who are due to sail before 11 May 2020 a future cruise credit for the value of their holiday.  This can be applied to any cruise departing before  December 31 2022. Guests who choose to reschedule their cruise will get between 25% and 50% additional cruise credit dependent on their embarkation dates.  Guests who prefer not to have a cruise credit can currently apply for a full refund of the amount they paid.

 

As a bonus guests impacted by the suspension or guests who cancelled via the Peace of Mind Policy can use their Future Cruise Credit along with a 20% discount off published fares for cruises from July 1 2020 through to December 31 2022. Eligible guests must book once their future cruise credit is applied to their account and no later than April 14  2020.

 

Guests who prefer not to take advantage of the Future Cruise Credit can apply for a refund.  If your scheduled departure was between 12 April and 10 May 2020 you will need to wait to claim your refund until after 13 April 2020.  The deadline to make a refund claim for currently affected cruises is 27 April 2020.   Refunds will be paid after 90 days.

 

Royal Caribbean Group including Celebrity and Azamara

 

These lines have adopted a Cruise with Confidence Policy that allows Clients to cancel up to 48 hours prior to departure and receive full cruise credit on their cruise fare usable on sailings in 2020 and 2021.  This policy currently applies to both existing and new bookings and has been extended until 1 September 2020.

 

Royal Caribbean have announced they are hoping to return to service on 11 May 2020 now with the exception of Alaska cruises which they are hoping will return to service by 1 July 2020 and Singapore sailings in June 2020 (Exact date yet to be confirmed).

A 125% Future Cruise Credit will be sent to all impacted guests automatically.  Alternatively they are offering a full 100% refund on what you have paid which affected guests can claim up until 31 December 2021.

 

Royal Caribbean have now clarified that only guests who booked the standard air fare as a component of a Royal Caribbean operated package will receive a refund on their air fare.  If you chose to book a non refundable flight this will as the name suggests be not refunded.  Over 70s guests who choose to cancel a cruise departing after 11 May 2020 no longer are being offered a monetary refund, they like everyone else now are only being offered a 100% Future Cruise Credit.


Holland America Line

Holland America Line have cancelled all their cruises until 14 May 2020

Guests who have cruises booked up to 14 May 2020 will have the choice between a 100% refund of the money you have paid to Holland America Line or they can receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit and $250 On Board Credit.   This is based on the base cruise fare and does not apply to non cruise purchases which will be refunded via the method of payment used to purchase the services.

Guests who do not choose the Future Cruise Credit option by 1 June 2020 will be automatically refunded.

Holland America Line also have a Book With Confidence Policy.  This is for bookings made up to April 30 2020 for bookings over 30 days prior to sailing on voyages from 31 August 2020 to 15th October 2020.  Your booking will have 1005 Future Cruise Credit on cancellation fee if your cruise is cancelled.  If a Future Cruise Credit is issued for this guarantee it must be bused by 31 December 2020.  Please note that due to the volume of bookings impacted it can take up to 60 Days for Future Cruise Credit or refund to be processed.

 

Cruises up to 31 July 2020 can be cancelled up to 48 before departure and a Future Cruise Credit will be issued on the cancellation fees.  Remember you will have to use the voucher by 31 December 2020 for cruises sailing by 31 December 2021.

If you are booked on a cruise up sailing before 31 July 2020 and choose to continue with your cruise you will enjoy up to $200 on board spending money per cabin for cruises over 7 nights and up to $100 on board spending money per cabin on cruises under 7 nights.  This is automatically applied.

 

Carnival Cruise Line

They have updated its cancellation and transfer policy to provide options to reschedule any cruises that are booked between 6 March 2020 and 31 May 2020.

Also guests with existing bookings who choose to go ahead with their cruise will receive the following additional on board credit amounts.

$100 per cabin 3 to 4 day cruises

$150 per cabin 5 day cruises

$200 per cabin for cruises 6 days or over

Carnival will automatically to you sail and sign account if you opt to sail.

 

Seabourn

Seabourn have suspended sailings until 14 May 2020.  Guests on affected cruises will have the choice of a 125% Future cruise credit or 100% refund.

 

They have introduced their book with confidence policy that is valid for existing bookings and new bookings up to 30 April 2020.   It applies to all sailings departing between 1 April 2020 and 15 October 2020. It allows guests to cancel up to 30 days prior and if they do they will receive a 100% cruise credit on what they have paid.  The Future Cruise Credit will need to be redeemed with your agent within 90 days of receipt for any Seabourn cruise departing before 31 December 2021.

 

Celestyal Cruises

Celestyal Cruises have suspended their sailings until 1 May 2020.

They have introduced a Peace of Mind policy as a response to the crisis. This will cover bookings between now and 30 June 2020 so guests can alter plans up to 7 days before their sail date without incurring cancellation fees.  They will receive a 100% future cruise credit.  The same applies to new bookings up until 30 April 2020. 

All named and fully paid guests on the cancelled cruises are being offered either a future cruise credit 0f 120% of the original booking value or a refund of 100% of the original cruise fare paid.  Guests have until December 31 2021 to use their future cruise credit.  Anyone who has not used their future cruise credit within the time specified will automatically once it has expired receive a refund equal to the original amount the guest has paid.

 

 Oceania Cruises

 

Oceania have now cancelled cruises until 10 May 2020.  Guests on affected cruises will receive an email outlining their options which are believed to include a generous future cruise credit or refund.  Details of how to make your choice will be in the email.

Guests booked on Oceania with an existing booking or a new booking by 30 April 2020 can cancel up to 48 hours before departure and get a Future Cruise Credit equal to 100% of the cruise fare they have paid. Plus up to the day of departure if there is a public promotion offering a better price or amenities guests can take advantage.

 

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent have announced they have introduced a temporary policy allowing guests to cancel up to 48 hours before departure and is applicable to all sailings up until 30 September 2020 on existing booking and new reservations before 30 April 2020. Guests who choose to cancel will get a 100% future cruise voucher on the cruise portion of their holiday.

 

Regent have suspended voyages until 10 May 2020.  Guests on these affected cruises will be offered a 100% Future Cruise Credit with a bonus 25%  Future Cruise Credit or guests can apply for a refund by 13 April 2020 it can take up to 90 days to process the refund.

 

Princess Cruises

Princess have suspended their cruises until 11 May 2020 to reset the environmental settings.  They are offering 100% of the amount paid plus bonus Future credit on a sliding  scale to guests who have had their cruise cancelled in the suspension period in Future Cruise Credit which will be valid  for any cruise  to 1 May 2022.  For those requiring a 100% cash refund subject to terms and conditions will be able to apply via an electronic form on the Princess Cruises website.  Future Cruise credits and refunds can take up to 60 days to be processed.

 

 Viking Cruises

Viking Cruises have cancelled all ocean nd river cruises until 30 June 2020.  Viking are offering a future cruise voucher worth 125% of money paid for cruises cancelled in this period or a 100% cash refund. Future Cruise Credit will be valid for 24 months.  Any Future Cruise Credit not used in the 24 month period will be automatically converted to cash refund of the price originally paid.  Alternatively you can apply to  your travel agent by 6 April for a 100% refund of monies paid.

 

 APT

 APT have cancelled all river cruises until 31 May 2020.  Affected clients who have paid the full balance will receive a future holiday credit equal to 100% of the holiday value.  Clients who have only paid the deposit can have their deposits held with no fees to book a future river cruise or holiday.

 

The Credit is valid for travel on any APT or Travelmarvel river cruise, tour or holiday until the end of 2021. Credit can be used on multiple bookings if desired for the original guest.

 They are allowing deposited bookings to be changed to later in 2020 or 2021 for a small fee plus any charges passed on by airlines and third party suppliers.

 

 However I understand this is subject to review and fluid dependent on circumstances.  So do check with APT for current situation as it applies to you.

 

Avalon Waterways

Avalon Waterways  have suspended all their river cruises until 30 April 2020.  They have introduced a Peace of Mind Plan for guests whose holidays have been impacted.  Guests can move their travel dates without incurring cancellation fees, land or airline penalties, plus a bonus credit of $200 for a new reservation on any future Avalon Waterways or Cosmos Cruise sailing between 2020 and 2022. Guests wanting to cancel will get a refund but they must advise Avalon of their intention to cancel by 31 March 2020.

 

Uniworld

Uniworld have cancelled all European itineraries until 23 April 2020.  They are offering  guests the opportunity to rebook on any 2020 or 2021 river cruise or they can have a future cruise credit that is valid for 24 months.


Windstar

All Windstar cruises have been cancelled until 30 April 2020.  Guests on the cancelled cruises can choose either a 125% future cruise credit or refund equal to the amount paid to Windstar.  Guests will have 24 months to use their future cruise credit.


Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages have postponed the inaugural season until 4 August 2020. The official Maiden Voyage will take place on 7 August 2020.  They are offering guests affected by the delay a 200% future cruise credit which can be used to rebook a new cruise.  In addition guests who rebook by 30 June will get a $500 on board credit.   However if guests want a refund they can have one and will get a 25% future cruise voucher for a future cruise.


Hurtigruten

They have announced a risk free and flexible rebooking policy. 

Guests booked on cruises between 12 March 2020 and 30 June 2020 can  rebook on a future rtigruten cruise between 1 July 2020 and 1 July 2021.  This offer also applies to bookings made by 30 April 2020. Changed reservations are reimbursed as a Future Cruise Voucher to 100% of monies paid and 10% discount on your future cruise. If you have booked your flight with Hurtigruten as part of a Hurtigruten  package the voucher includes your flight.

If you wish to make a change if you have booked with a flight from Hurtigruten the change must be made within 48 hours of your flight.  Otherwise 48 hours before your pre cruise hotel or cruise.

 

Cruise and Maritime Voyages

Cruise and Maritime Voyages have now extended their suspension of cruises until 24th May 2020.  This has led to the following changes in their cancellation and transfer policies.  All the guests who were affected by the existing suspension that ran from the 13 March 2020 through to the 24 April 2020 will have been contacted and advised of their options.  One major change has been that if they have accepted the 125% Future Cruise Credit has been extended and they can now book their future cruise by 31 December 2020 for any cruise up until 31 December 2022.

For guests who were due to sail in the new suspension period between 25 April 2020 and 24 May 2020, these guests will be sent a 125% future cruise credit voucher and they too must use the voucher by 31 December 2020 and it is valid for cruises departing up until 31 December 2022.  If you prefer a refund you have to do this through whoever you booked your holiday with.  The cruise line will then process your refund in accordance with the updated ABTA guidance.

 

Finally Cruise and Maritime have introduced the following policy for guests with cruises that are not   cancelled yet, but are due to travel between 25 May 2020 and 31 July 2020. Guests whose cruise falls into this period can cancel their cruise up until 7 days before departure and receive a 125% Future cruise Credit provided you have fully paid your balance.  The voucher is valid for booking cruises that sail before 31 December 2022 and booked by 31 December 2020.

The following Terms and Conditions apply:

 Cruises must be paid in full by the required date.

Once rebooked 100% cancellation fee applies.

New cruises must be of the equivalent value or higher of the original booking

If new booking is of a higher value then you will pay the difference between the Future Cruise Credit and the new higher price.

You are allowed 1 name up to 14 nights prior to sail date.

 

Marella Cruises and Tui River Cruises.

Tui / Marella have now cancelled all Marella Ocean Cruises up until and inclusive of 31 May 2020 and TUI  River Cruises until 26 November.  TUI have said they are contacting all guests who are affected however this may not be as quick as normally due to changes in the way they work and closure of their retail stores but have said they will be in touch with everyone as soon as they can.  Customers who booked with them online can change their holiday free of charge through the manage your booking facility.  Guests who booked through an agent or the retail TUI shops should wait for Tui to contact them to discuss the options available to them.

 

Windstar

Currently suspended until 1 May 2020.

 

Guests affected by the suspension can choose between a 100% refund or a 125% Future Cruise Credit and will have 24 months to rebook their holiday.
